This tall and commanding central defender has risen through the Academy ranks and landed a professional contract for the forthcoming 2006-07 campaign. A consistent performer for the Academy and the reserves, Matthew is a tower of strength in defence and very comfortable with the ball at his feet. He likes to get forward and lend his height to the attack at set piece situations and did so to great effect during the 2005-06 pre-season when he headed home a corner against Dereham Town. His fitness and consistency are backed up in impressive statistics which show him playing a staggering 85 Academy and reserve games during his two-year scholarship.
