Player Profile Joe Lewis
A young goalkeeper with a big future ahead of him, Joe has represented England at various schoolboy and youth levels and last season stepped up to play for the under-19 side. His reward for a series of outstanding performances for the Academy was a first professional contract on his 17th birthday back in October 2004. An instinctive shot stopper who uses his strapping 6'5" frame to command his area to great effect. Joe is always keen to bowl the ball out to his team-mates and convert defence into attack at the earliest opportunity. He already has useful experience of being in and around the first team scene with a number of unused substitute opportunities handed to him when other 'keepers were injured. Official 2006-07 Norwich City FC Handbook Goalkeeper Joe Lewis is currently the youngest member of the Canaries' squad and the latest player to come through the Academy to earn a professional contract at Carrow Road. Although Joe has still to make his full Canary debut, he almost took Ryan Jarvis' mantel as the Club's youngest-ever player when he made seven appearances on the first-team bench during the Club's 2003-04 championship-winning season as a 15-year-old schoolboy. A regular at both Academy and reserve team level, Joe got a taste of first-team action at Carrow Road in August 2004 during a pre-season friendly with Real Mallorca. Joe has represented England at various schoolboy and youth levels, and last season linked up with the national Under-18 side. A boyhood Norwich fan and now clearly a Canary 'keeper of the future, Joe's undoubted qualities were further recognised when he was handed his first professional contract in October 2004 following his 17th birthday. Norwich City have a great tradition of producing and fielding great goalkeepers and in Joe Lewis it certainly looks as though that trend is going to continue into the future.
