Player Profile Simon Charlton
Defender Simon Charlton joined the Canaries in July 2004 and immediately flew out to Malaysia to join up with his new team-mates at their pre-season training camp. A vastly experienced defender, Simon began his career with Huddersfield Town before enjoying successful spells with Southampton, Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers, from whom he left to join the Canaries for a fee or £250,000. With the ability to operate at either centre-back or left-back, Simon's versatility and experience were of great benefit to the Canaries in last season's Barclays Premiership campaign. He even chipped in with his first goal in over six years during the 2-2 draw with Portsmouth at Carrow Road. Although not a tall defender, Simon is surprisingly competitive in the air as well as on the deck, where his swift and determined tackling skills often helped the Canaries to convert defence into attack. A popular character in the dressing room and well-respected by the supporters, Simon could well prove to be a vital cog in the Canaries' 2005-06 Coca-Cola Championship campaign.
